COVID-19 Update

Our plan for a rotational model of housing families in our congregations has been greatly impacted by COVID-19. In the meantime, Family Promise of San Joaquin County will be working diligently with local organizations that provide food, clothing and temporary shelter for families experiencing homelessness. We are dedicated to supporting those hardest hit by COVID-19 and look forward to making a difference in the lives of these families.

Family Promise of San Joaquin County

Building community, strengthening lives

As most people know, there are so many circumstances that can be a tipping point for hard working people.

A recent Federal Reserve Survey stated :

“About 46 percent of Americans said they did not have enough money to cover a $400 emergency expense. Instead, they would have to put it on a credit card and pay it off over time, borrow from friends or family, or simply not cover it at all.”    Read the full Washington Post Story….

The Family Promise core program is a way for communities to address the challenge of family homelessness by using existing resources. Not only does this make the program cost efficient, it also makes it more effective and scalable.

Family Promise of San Joaquin serves Stockton and greater San Joaquin County. If we take a look at what’s going on with homeless in Stockton and San Joaquin County, we’ll see that the  number of homeless people could well exceed 14.000 people.

And, unfortunately, the available shelters are far less than what is  required:

Family Promise is not just about getting families into housing, but it is also about addressing the underlying issues of homelessness, and financial insecurity. We use existing community resources to help solve these issues. In the process, we are transforming the lives of children and homeless families throughout the county.

We are passionate about this because every child deserves a home, and every family deserves an opportunity to get back on their feet.

Our Mission is to help reduce homeless and support  low income families in San Joaquin County to achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.

We accomplish our mission through  delivering these  life-saving services:

– Homelessness Prevention

– Temporary Shelter

– Stabilization to families in need
