Why Do We Need This:
To provide transportation for families who have been identified as situationally homeless from host congregations to the Family Promise Day Center for hygiene, education, training and assistance with job seeking for the adults and to schools for the children. It will then be used to return families to the host congregations for the evenings and overnight. Families move from congregation to congregation weekly until jobs and permanent housing are found. This van may also be used to help transport sleeping cots and some other supplies.
$50,000 including some rear cargo space, with no fundraising or administrative fees. Since families are vetted (for past criminal activity) we are prevented from using any federal govt. funds.
Through announcements and/or in written acknowledgment in Family Promise brochures or other informational literature and within the communication avenues of all host congregations. (Through the experiences of other chapters, we are sensitive to the potential for bullying of children delivered daily to schools in a van plainly marked as Family Promise of with a donor’s name printed on the sides and therefore do not allow donor “advertising” on our vans.)
